I admit it – I do not like exercise. I would much rather watch a documentary than watch my rolls giggle as I motivate around a track. But lately I’ve been thinking that maybe moving is not so bad, considering every disease known to man runs in my family. I realized maybe what’s running in my family should be me. Don’t misunderstand – I still get winded playing checkers, but I have to start somewhere, right?
This week I received an email from the Carbon Valley Chamber of Commerce with information about the annual Superhero Run benefitting LifeStories. I hadn’t heard of either thing but was intrigued. Here is what it said:
While we need to be apart this year, we can still fight child abuse together! Join us for this year’s Virtual Superhero event presented by Auto Collision Specialists. Sign up for one of 4 distances (13.1 M, 10K, 5K, or 1 Mile), then run or walk your distance anytime/anywhere, upload your results and download your printable finishers certificate. You will also be entered to win a door prize (challenges excluded). Special edition medals (limited quantity) and shirts are included in your race registration.
My friend and coach Lida Johnson is helping me pull this off (whether I walk the whole thing or run some.) Since the race is “virtual” we thought it would be fun to get a small group of folks together in Firestone for the race. We are going to complete it on September 18 at 6:00 PM, beginning at Coal Ridge Middle School and running on the Firestone Trail.
If you are looking for a reason to move your body over the next couple weeks and want a goal to work toward, visit the LifeStories website (below) and signup for our team, CARBON VALLEY TRIUMPH, then CLICK HERE TO CONTACT LIDA. All ability levels and applicable race lengths are welcome. (See website below for race details.) Also, if you have experience running or helping with races, we can use your help with the course and logistics. Contact her for that as well. Remember to signup at the website below to support a good cause and make it official. I hope to see you on September 18!
