What do a psychologist and a bucking bronc have in common? Read on!
This gorgeous spring weather and new hope for a return to normal make me want to reunite with loved ones. Mother’s Day has always been an occasion where my extended family gathered in mass for picnics in Louisiana, the home of my grandparents, Alice and George Miner. I remember feeding the fish oatmeal in their backyard pond, more than 25 cousins catching up on the year, and long picnic tables for the potluck lunch. We ran around, played yard games, and ate delicious Cajun food.
But my grandmother didn’t always live in Louisiana. In fact, she was raised right down the road in Platteville. When I moved to Colorado 25 years ago, little did I know I was coming home. My great-grandfather was Arthur Brown, a rural mail carrier in Weld County in the early 1900s. Then there was my grandmother’s uncle, Andrew Jackson ‘Jack’ Elliott, the Weld County Sheriff. Who knew that 9 miles from my new homestead in Firestone once lived a Pro Rodeo Hall of Famer and inventor of the first rodeo side chute in 1927 still used today. In fact, my relative Verne Elliott was also owner of the infamous Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame broncs, Midnight and Five Minutes to Midnight. These horses are still considered to be the world’s greatest bucking broncs. With that legacy right here in Weld County, we can be proud when we visit the Denver Stock Show and Rodeo.
As the owner of Pine Cone Avenue Social, I’m excited to recreate those memories with new families in the community. Retiring from my work as a psychologist with a love for people and the outdoors, I opened a small event venue, specializing in intimate celebrations. With gardens and beautiful pastures, we host family style gatherings, parties, weddings, and community events. We are located just off Pine Cone Avenue with a historic box car in the pasture which has now become a museum of sorts honoring my Weld County heritage.
Come join us for our first Food Truck Social with live music, food, and an opportunity to meet some new neighbors on June 10th from 5-9 pm. For more information on our venue and Food Truck event visit www.pineconesocial.com.
